St. Mary Lake

With a surface area of 3,923 acres, Saint Mary Lake is the second-largest lake in Glacier National Park (Lake McDonald is the largest). It is located east of the Continental Divide, in the eastern part of the park. The cold and clear waters of the lake are rarely warmer than 50°F and are teaming with trout. Shots of Saint Mary Lake were used in the opening scene of the legendary film "The Shining" by Stanley Kubrick.

How to get there?

The lake is located near the east entrance of Glacier National Park. Going-to-the-Sun Road passes along St. Mary's north shore and provides the easiest access to the lake.
